SOPHIA ODDI is an Italian-American freelance contemporary dancer and choreographer based in Los Angeles. Using dance, theater, and powerful soundscapes, her work is often satirical, humorous, and deeply reflective. She believes that creating spaces for opinions to be held, shared, and questioned has impact beyond the lifespan of any given project, and approaches each new work as an opportunity to be in community as each collaborator attempts to make sense of their place within the systems they inhabit. Previous works have dealt with themes of gender, identity, and family systems.
Sophia was born in Rome, Italy and raised in Monte-Carlo. She graduated with the inaugural class of the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance in 2019 under the direction of Jodie Gates and William Forsythe. She previously attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts.
In addition to her work as a freelance dancer (TU Dance, Zeitgeist Dance Theatre), and teacher for Francisco Gella Dance Works, Sophia creates work for stage and screen. She has participated in the Homegrown Residency through the Dance Resource Center, and was a choreographer-in-residence for FALCO Dance’s WOODWORKS Residency. Choreographic credits include Verdi’s Otello at the Segerstrom Concert Hall, SNSxAdidas, and self-produced concert work.
